The PRIMEPOWER server brings together the world’s fastest bus technology and the latest in SPARC® processor development, providing the best value and system scalability in a Solaris Operating System.
HIGH RELIABILITY
Processors The high performance SPARC64 V processors have added ASIC functionality to enhance its ECC operation. This is done with the addition of parity checking on address and control registers, as well as arithmetic units. Not only is full hardware error scanning of the CPU and ASIC supported, but there is also a System Control Facility function that reads history, EDL, DTAG, and SCAN data. Finally, instruction retry is at the processor component level making the PRIMEPOWER 250 far more reliable than one would expect from an entry-level server.
Design Standards The high reliability of this system matches the standards in design and configuration of much larger systems. It also features redundant and hot swappable components such as disks, power supplies, fans, and PCI cards. Online firmware updates are also supported and can be achieved using the new “lights-out data center” XSCF facilities.
Extended System Control Facility (XSCF) The highly evolved System Control Facility used on much larger PRIMEPOWER systems now provides the PRIMEPOWER 450 server with legacy system control and monitoring by an autonomous dedicated entity (SCF system). XSCF monitors fans, power supplies, system status, and peripheral equipment and logs and reports various hardware events, identifying potential problems before they occur using continual heuristic log analysis.
HIGH PERFORMANCE/FLEXIBILITY
The high performance SPARC64 V processor is SPARC V9L2 compliant, has on-chip 256 KB Level1 and 3 MB of Level2 cache and features out of order execution operations. With six simultaneous instruction execution capabilities and four floating-point operations per cycle the SPARC64 V processor is up to any task. The PRIMEPOWER 450 server can be mounted in a rack and can be configured with two GHz-class processors in a 4U size chassis.
