750MHz Sun Fire V880 systems can be upgraded to use the 900MHz CPU/Memory modules without replacing the motherboard, if the Solaris and OBP levels indicated below are present.
Mixing module speeds within a Sun Fire V880 is not supported.
The minimum operating system for Sun Fire V880 to run at 900MHz is Solaris 8 10/01 with all applied patches, or Solaris 8 2/02.
Sun Fire V880 OBP 4.5 Version 6 added 900MHz Cu support (February 2002).
Sun Fire V880 OBP 4.5 Version 12 fixed ecache scrub (April 2002).
Sun Fire V880 OBP 4.6 Version 3 added 900MHz Cu 2.3 support (June 2002).
Although the above information states the minimum OBP levels, it is highly recommended that Sun Fire V880 servers with 900MHz CPUs be at OBP 4.10.8 or higher.

Memory errors include CPU number, J number, and Slot location.
Four DIMMs of the same size form a group.
The minimum memory is eight DIMMS in groups A0 and B0.
DIMM groups associated with a failed CPU are unavailable for use.
Interleaving is limited to memory on the same CPU/Memory Board.
Two-way interleaving occurs in any group when the DIMM size does not match the size used in any other group.
Four-way interleaving occurs between any two groups when the DIMM sizes are the same.
Eight-way interleaving occurs when the DIMMs in all four groups are the same size.
